Scarlet Chested Grass Parakeets

Scarlet Chested Grass Parakeets, Perfect Apartment Pets

Scarlet chested grass parakeets are the perfect apartment pets.  They are small, quiet, and beautiful, and can be companions just like any other birds.  Scarlet chested grass parakeets are gentle by nature.  They are often viewed as aviary birds, but when hand fed, they make sweet pet birds.

Appearance and Lifespan of Scarlet Chested Grass Parakeets

Scarlet Chested Grass Parakeets can live 10-15 years. The males have a royal blue head and a red chest. Females have more of an aqua blue on the head and do not get the red chest. Both have yellow on the lower front part of the body. They are a rainbow of colors.

  1. I have been looking for a while for a handfed scarlet-chested parakeet. Would you happen to have any available? I am located in northern Kentucky but have family in Indianapolis. I might be able to make the drive up to get a bird in the next several weeks. Or, I might be interested in possibly having the bird shipped… But only if that can be done safely! Please let me know! Thank you!!

  2. I am looking for a handfed male scarlet chested parakeet for a pet for myself that I can have for a long time. Please email me if you have one. Thank you! Candy

    • Currently we only have one baby that is parent raised. Please check back, as we normally hand feed everybody. Thanks. Pam Sysinger

  3. Hello. I am located in extreme Eastern Tenn. I have a 7 year old Amboina King Parrot.
I am interested in either a Princess of Wales or Scarlet-Chested Parrakeet,
hand-fed, male; and that for a bit later (in Autumn) this year. I will keep in
touch with you on this. I do NOT like to ship birds so I would be driving up if
we ever arrive at a bird sale. Thank you. PM

  10. HI

  11. I know you stated that you don’t currently have any Scarlets available, but do you think these birds typically make good pets if handfed? Would a handfed Princess of Wales be a better choice?

    • We have one scarlet chested baby in the nestbox currently. If handfed, yes, they can make good pets. However, a handfed Princess of Wales is probably a better choice if you want to possibly have a talker. They are also gentle by nature and males can be taught to talk in most cases. We have had people keep in touch to tell us that their males talk. Pam

  12. Thanks for the info. Is the Scarlet-Chested baby going to be handfed?

Also, regarding the blue Princess of Wales parakeet, do you know if the males always develop the violet patch on their rump? The reason I ask is because I have noticed that in some of the photos of male blue POWs I have found on the internet, there is no violet patch. Do you know if this coloring usually doesn’t develop until after their first molt?

  13. Do you currently have a male scarlet Chested parakeet available for sale? If none are available now, do you accept deposits for future babies?

    • Jane,
I am hand feeding 2 baby scarlet chested grass parakeets. However, one is sold. I also have one female that is already weaned. Pam

  14. How often do you have Scarlet Chested Parakeets? Is it usually only once a year? And do you ever do shows close to Syracuse, NY

    • Currently we have no scarlet chested parakeet babies available. We normally have them throughout the year. I only do shows in the Midwest, but I do ship via Delta. Pam Sysinger

  15. Hi, I was wondering if you know when you will have scarlet chested parakeets available. If you could send me an email, I would appreciate it. Thank you

    • Caitlin,
I am waiting on more English babies to hatch. I have no scarlet chesteds available currently. Hopefully there will be babies this Fall. Pam Sysinger

    • Margie,
I would not put 2 hens with a male. They may or may not get along. I have done that with Rosey Bourkes, but not with scarlet chesteds. Pam Sysinger

We are interested in a beautifully colored baby male. What is the youngest age we would be able to bring one home with us? Please let me know. Thank you!

  20. Hi Pam,

I am checking if you have any male scarlet chested parakeets. I would be willing to put a down payment on one to secure it until they are old enough to sex and be picked up.

    • Tami,
I have no scarlet chested grass parakeet babies available currently. I would be glad to take your name and number and let you know when I have some available. You can contact me at (574) 273-1767 Pam Sysinger

  21. Im just curious, Does anyone know how good of talkers the Scarlets are? My neighbor would like one but wants it to talk and Im not sure.

    • Josh,
Scarlet chested grass parakeets are more aviary birdsssssss than talkers. I have never had one that talks. Pam Sysinger

  22. Hi! I may actually be interested in one of these. Do you have any available birds? I don’t believe in keeping animals in isolation so I would need at least two, preferably male and female to create my own mini-flock. I think that’s preferable than keeping just the one bird.

  23. Hi!

I’m very interested in purchasing 2-4 scarlet chested parakeets to be housed together. I’d love for them to be hand raised. Is there any chance you would have any sometime soon?
    Thank you!
